Center Parcs 2007

On the weekend after the final game of the season saw over 20 members and guests head off for 3 days of traditional rest at Center Parcs in Elvedon Forest. A great deal of energy was expended on the variety of courts and tables. It was a disappointment to some that a lack of wind prevented the usual sailing activities, especially those who had RYA qualifications. 2008 has already been booked, so if any other members would like to join us in this post-season rest, they would be more than welcome. Please contact Joe Farrell for details.

2007Annual General Meeting

The AGM was held as usual at the Golden Lion Public House on Tuesday 9th October 2007. Unusually there was a big attendance for this meeting with around 20 people crowded into what was the snug bar. The first drink was on the Club and a sausage and chips meal served mid-way through the proceedings. The following outlines some of the more important items that were discussed.

The Future of the Club

The main item for discussion was the future of the Club, i.e. whether we were to disband or not. The overwhelming mood of the meeting was that we should continue but with a fixture list similar to that fulfilled for the 2007 season, i.e. around 12 fixtures. If there was support for additional matches these could be sought from the Club Cricket Conference bureau.

2008 Fixtures

The Fixture Secretary, Graham Cowell, was given a mandate to try and devise a schedule of evenly spaced fixtures; starting with matches against Clubs we have played for many years. Once these were contacted, other teams could be considered to fill any necessary gaps.

Club Finances

The Treasurer, Moira Nightingale, reported that although a small loss had been the Club’s finances were still in a healthy position. This position informed the lively and extended debate over setting the level of subscriptions for 2007/08. The debate concluded to leave the annual and match subscriptions at the same level as that for the 06/07 season. It was very heartening for the Club, and the Treasurer, that she was overwhelmed with members trying to pay their 07/08 subs at the conclusion of the meeting!

2008 Nets

The Vice-Captain, the awfully nice Tony Weeden, agreed to arrange nets again in April 2008. Please look out for an email around that time advising you of dates and times etc. It will be a chance for members to bring along prospective members to introduce them to the Club.
