Grange Cricket ClubPlayers

Bob Weatherly CaptainBob Weatherly

Bob is one of the stalwarts of our club, seen here in his familiar crouching tiger style, ready to pounce on any loose balls the opposition may dish up. Has been a regular and loyal member since 1980, is the arch exponent of the art of nurdling singles to all parts of the ground.

Joe Farrell - Chairman

Joe Farrell

Joe is one of the founder members of the Club and played more games than anyone else in the club’s history. Although rumoured to be sponsored by Speckled Hen, he is a canny bowler always looking to exploit a batsman’s weaknesses, Joe has taken numerous wickets on turning pitches. He has been a past captain of the club and assumed the position of vice-captain for the 2005 season.

Adam Lowes

Adam Lowes

Adam has followed his father Adrian and grandfather, Alf, into the Club and has opened the bowling for the last year or two. His fast raw pace has troubled many an opening batsman and wicketkeeper alike. Seen here in the outfield at Essendon, taking a catch in the deep.

Graham CowellGraham Cowell

Graham is one of the founding members of the club having featured in the first recorded game. Often seen dressed in a variety of non-standard clothing, he remains a familiar sight on the pitch wearing a large battered red hat to cover his solar panel.

Richard MillwardRichard Millward

Richard is one of our newest members, starting with us in 2006. More than capable behind the stumps as wicketkeeper, he also promises much with the bat, which the Club is looking forward to seeing during 2007. Having taken on an allotment this year, the Club are looking forward to home grown food in his sandwiches for match teas next season (so long as its not brussels sprouts).

Alan Nightingale

alan nightingale

Alan is a long standing member of the Club who was present for the very first games played. He took the position of Fixtures Secretary for many years before passing on his expertise to the present incumbent. A stylish, top-order batsman capable of accumulating runs in a methodical manner, his main expertise on the pitch is served in keeping wicket. When pressed into this role he brings to it his own unique style, often likened to keeping wicket wearing a pair of oven gloves.

Paul FarrellPaul FarrellAnother stalwart of the Club, Paul has followed his father’s footsteps in playing cricket. Paul has occupied both the Captain and Vice-Captain roles for a number of years. Paul is a hard hitting, front foot batsman who has lashed many a bad ball to the boundary. A safe pair of hands in the field, he has modelled himself on numerous West Ham goalkeepers. Seen here in aggressive pose in the nets at Aston CC, getting in some practice, before he unleashes himself on their unsuspecting bowlers.

Brian Izzard

brian izzard

Brian has played for the Grange for 20 seasons. A hard-hitting, free-scoring batsman, Brian is also known for the accuracy of his bowling weighing in with the odd wicket now and then. Seen here in jovial pose, with his cap at a jaunty angle, before striding out to face the bowlers of London Colney CC.

Duncan Murray

duncan murrayDuncan is a top order batsman capable of scoring quick runs through the off-side field with glorious cover drives. Seen here in determined pose, he is also a reluctant wicket keeper able to dive dolphin-like either way to parry the ball and prevent byes being scored.

Adrian Lowes

adrian lowes

Adrian is one of the founder members of the Club and was a regular player with his father, Alf, in our first season in 1979. A stylish top order batsman, as well as an accurate bowler of fast or slow speeds, he captained the side during the mid 1990s. He continues to encourage Grange players on the field to up their game. He introduced his son Adam to the game and he continues in the Lowes tradition in following his father, grandfather and uncle in playing for the Grange.

Phil Hargreaves

phil hargreaves

Phil, nicknamed The Professional, is our first choice wicketkeeper. Lightening fast to the stumping and with very safe pair of hands, Phil is often seen diving full length preventing byes from wayward balls delivered by errant bowlers. No mean slouch with the bat he is more than capable of holding up an end and nicking runs here and there. Seen here in grinning pose he is a comforting sight for any bowler, knowing no matter what rubbish they deliver up Phil will do his utmost to prevent the byes their balls so richly deserve.

Tony Weeden Vice Captain Tony Weeden

Tony is a past captain of the Club. Although one of our eldest players, Tony energy and commitment to the cause, is second to none. His bowling, although lacking the speed it once had, is tidy and accurate which makes it difficult to score runs from. He is often heard encouraging his team-mates with cries of “awfully good shot” and “get on with it”. When Club Chairman he tightly controlled the AGMs to maintain strict order; thereby giving everyone the opportunity to speak (generally all at the same time).

Stan Florence Stan Florence

Stan is one of our all-rounders,more than useful with both bat and ball. Has played since the mid 1980’s and scored plenty of runs and taken many wickets since that time. Seen here gritting his teeth in familiar committed style, he can be relied upon for gaining the innings much middle order momentum.

Pete Dutton

pete duttonPeter has played for the Club for many years and is one of its longest serving members. A fearless hard hitting batsman, reknowned for not wearing a box, he is capable of placing close fielders, the bowler and umpires in danger when he connects with the ball. He has scored many runs for the Grange and, when acting as wicket keeper, is a solid performer behind the stumps.

David Cowell

David Cowell

David is one of the younger members of our Club and has opened the bowling for a number of recent seasons. Often seen sliding round the outfield getting his whites green (much to the dismay of his mother!), he fits matches in between his time at University and playing for Braughing CC.
